HITÓRIA: O Festival Sundance de Cinema tem início em 1978, como U.S. Film Festival. HISTÓRIA: O Oscar é o mais famoso e cobiçado troféu do mundo do cinema. É entregue anualmente em cerimónia no Teatro Kodak, na cidade de Los Angeles (EUA) aos que mais se destacaram no ano cinematográfico anterior.Os vencedores são escolhidos por um colégio de mais de 5.800 membros votantes da Academia, de diversas nacionalidades.Concorrem ao prêmio todos os filmes apresentados durante pelo menos uma semana no mínimo em três cinemas do distrito de Los Angeles no ano anterior à cerimónia, e os membros da Academia indicam os cinco selecionados para a escolha final dentro de sua própria categoria (actores indicam actores, realizadores indicam realizadores etc). Após a seleção dos cinco finalistas em cada categoria, todos os membros votam e elegem um dos indicados (ou nomeados) ao prémio nas suas respectivas modalidades.O Oscar em si – cujo nome oficial é Prêmio de Mérito da Academia – é uma pequena estatueta de 35 cm de altura pesando quase quatro quilogramas, feita de estanho folheado a ouro de catorze quilates, em forma de um cavaleiro sobre um pedestal no formato de um rolo de filme, com uma espada de cruzado atravessada verticalmente no peito. Seu valor real é de cerca 200 dólares, mas seu valor simbólico é incomensurável, pelo prestígio profissional e popular que concede ao premiado e pelo faturamento que pode dar a um filme.A versão mais popular e conhecida para o nome dado ao óscar, é a que concede a autoria dele à secretária-executiva da Academia, Margareth Herrick, que ao vê-lo comentou que a pequena estátua parecia muito com seu tio Oscar, comparação ouvida por um jornalista presente no momento, que a publicou em seu jornal. Outra versão dá conta que a actriz Bette Davis o teria apelidado assim, dado a semelhança da estatueta com seu primeiro marido. De qualquer modo o apelido pegou de tal maneira que hoje – e há muitos anos - é o nome pelo qual o Academy Award ou Prêmio da Academia é conhecido mundialmente.
